Presentation and literary workshop by ben clark
The Estepona City Council informs that the Library of Contemporary Cultures at Mirador del Carmen has scheduled two activities for next week with Ben Clark, one of the most outstanding poets in our country.
Clark, winner of prestigious poetry prizes such as the Loewe and the Hiperión, will lead the writing workshop 'Verses to Soothe Any Sorrow' next Tuesday, June 2nd, at 7:00 p.m. Those interested in this free activity should register at bcc@estepona.es.
The second event with Ben Clark will be on Wednesday, June 3rd, at 8:00 PM, with free admission until capacity is reached. The author will present 'Nuclear Semiotics', a collection of poems that imagines how a civilization attempts to leave a record of itself when it knows its legacy may become incomprehensible.
The book explores the limits of language—its resilience and its failure—and transforms that uncertainty into a form of clarity. Between sealed repositories and fractured mythologies, the poems ask what remains of us when only signs survive, and who, human or not, can decipher them. Ultimately, it is a work about memory and the need to keep speaking even when no one can guarantee there will be a reader.
Ben Clark, poet and translator, has published, among others, the poetry collections 'The Children of the Children of Wrath', 'Cabotage', 'Garbage', 'The Beast', for which he won the RNE El Ojo Crítico Poetry Prize in 2014, 'Shackleton's Last Dogs' or 'The Celestial Police'.
He has translated the poetry of Edward Thomas, Anne Sexton, Stephen Dunn, and Saul Williams, among others. He is a trustee of the Antonio Gala Foundation for Young Creators in Córdoba and a poetry tutor for scholarship recipients in residence.
He has given poetry creation workshops in Spain, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Uruguay, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and South Korea and has been a jury member for numerous poetry prizes such as the 'City of Estepona' International Poetry Prize, the Generation of '27 Poetry Prize or the José de Espronceda Poetry Prize.
